The Definition of Real Estate Reciprocity
Many website "authorities" think that real estate license reciprocity simply means that if you hold an active real estate license one region of state, you can apply for a real estate license in another state without pre-licensing education or an exam. This unfortunately is an over simplification of a very complex reality. The truth is that States vary greatly, each State has it's own definition of "reciprocity," along with their own requirements for obtaining a reciprocal license. Some States, like Georgia, will allow anyone with an active broker's license in another state, to apply for a broker's license in Georgia, other States like California, have no reciprocity. Some states only offer the ability to not take their exam, or the national portion of their exam. Many States have rules to follow in order to get a credit for experience, education or exam requirements.
Every State is different. If you're looking to get a license out of state, you really need to check into the state's requirements. And that's the primary reason for this site, so you can get a high level overview before you invest the time in researching it.
